November 25, 2024: Two-thirds (67%) of voters say that the government should let consumers decide which vehicles to buy. A Napolitan News Service national survey conducted by RMG Research found that just 26% say the government should encourage people to buy electric vehicles.

The survey also found that only 25% of voters believe that if, in seven years, half of all new cars sold are electric powered, the U.S. power grid will be able to produce enough electricity. Fifty-four percent (54%) disagree.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on November 18-19, 2024. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population. The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
