Scott Rasmussen's Number of the Day for November 5, 2024
The Number of the Day columns published on Ballotpedia reflect the views of the author.
November 5, 2024: One hundred and seventy-nine (179) years ago, Congress passed a law that made the first Tuesday in November Election Day. The date was chosen because of the importance of agriculture in America at the time. Tuesday was picked because it gave Americans a chance to travel to the polls after many Americans spent Sunday at church. November was chosen as it followed the harvest but was before winter weather would affect travel.[1]
