October 1, 2018: Seventy-six million tourists visited the United States during 2017 and spent a total of $210.7 billion. Those figures reflect a 3.8% decline in the number of tourists from the year before but a 1.9% increase in spending.[1]

Worldwide, there were 1.32 billion international tourist arrivals in 2017, up 7% from 2016. Spending by tourists was up 5% to $1.34 trillion.

The U.S. totals accounted for approximately 6% of international tourist visits globally but 16% of tourist spending.

Two other countries had more tourists visit during the year—France (87 million) and Spain (82 million). However, no other country had even a third as much revenue generated from tourism.
