October 1, 2019: Seventy years ago today, on October 1, 1949, "Chinese Communist leader Mao Zedong declared the creation of the People’s Republic of China (PRC)."[1]
With that declaration, the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) effectively ended a bitter civil war and defeated the Nationalist Party. In the United States, the question of who should be charged with "facilitating the 'loss' of China to communism" became a major political issue. "The 'fall' of mainland China to communism in 1949 led the United States to suspend diplomatic ties with the PRC for decades."
