October 10, 2023: Sixty-five percent (65%) of voters favor the U.S. imposing tariffs on all goods imported from China to protect Americans and their jobs from Chinese cheating. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 55% of voters favor imposing tariffs on critical goods like food, energy, and medicine, in order to counter China’s influence in the United States.

The survey also found that a majority of voters (52%) believe that the U.S. should impose higher tariffs on goods from China than those it imposes on similar goods from friendly countries.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on September 18-19, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the -sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
