October 17, 2022: A majority (59%) of voters think it is likely that the invasion of Ukraine will lead to a wider war between Russia, Europe, and the United States, including 18% who think it is very likely. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 27% think it is not very likely (22%) or not at all likely (5%), and 14% are not sure.

The survey also found that 51% think it is likely that American soldiers will eventually be sent into battle against the Russians, including 18% who think it is very likely. Thirty-four percent (34%) think it is not likely, including 9% who say it is not at all likely.

Methodology

The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on October 4-6, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
