September 11, 2019: It’s been 18 years since the horrific events of 9/11. Over the course of those 18 years, 204 New York firefighters have died due to World Trade Center-related illnesses.[1]
New York City Fire Department (FDNY) Commissioner Daniel Nigro said, “It is almost incomprehensible that after losing 343 members on September 11, we have now had 200 more FDNY members die due to World Trade Center illness. These heroes gave their lives bravely fighting to rescue and recover others. We will never forget them.”[2]
A total of 2,977 people were killed in the attacks that took place 18 years ago today.
