September 13, 2023: Forty-two percent (42%) of voters say they trust state and local governments above the federal government when it comes to handling preparation for and recovery from natural disasters. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 10% of voters trust the federal government more to handle disaster prevention and recovery.

The survey also found that 32% trust both the federal government and governments on the state and local levels equally. Nine percent (9%) of voters trust neither.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on September 5-6, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the -sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
