September 15, 2022: Twenty-five percent (25%) of voters consider themselves to be “woke.” A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 39% do not consider themselves to be “woke,” 23% have never heard of the term, and 13% don’t know enough about it to have an opinion.
A year ago, 32% of voters had never heard of the term “woke,” and 13% didn’t know enough about it to have an opinion. Thirty percent (30%) considered themselves to be “woke,” and 25% did not.
The survey also found that voters are unsure what the term means. 30% say that a “woke” person would likely believe that the United States was founded on ideals of freedom, equality, and self-governance. Forty-five percent (45%) think the opposite, that a “woke” person would believe the country was founded on slavery, oppression, and racism.
Methodology
The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on September 1-2, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
Note: Neither Scott Rasmussen, ScottRasmussen.com, nor RMG Research, Inc. have any affiliation with Rasmussen Reports. While Scott Rasmussen founded that firm, he left nearly a decade ago and has had no involvement since that time.
