September 19, 2018: The average cost of a wedding and reception in the United States these days is $27,000. According to WeddingWire, that jumps to $36,000 when you include the cost of an engagement ring and honeymoon.[1]

Perhaps not surprisingly, the process gets more expensive as it goes along. Before spending $27,000, the average couple budgeted $16,000 for the big event.

A lot of that spending will be going on in the next few weeks. In 2017, the top four wedding dates were the Saturdays between September 30 and October 21. Number five on the list was November 11.

Millennials account for roughly 80% of weddings these days and typically pay 40% of the cost out of pocket. One out of five have it fully paid for by their parents.
