September 25, 2023: Forty-four percent (44%) of voters know that median income after taxes in American households dropped significantly last year. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that 26% believe incorrectly that no such drop has occurred.

The survey also found that just 36% of voters believe that anyone who is willing to work in America can earn enough to provide for him or herself and his or her family. This is contrasted with 51% of voters who say this is not true.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on September 13-14, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the -sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
