September 26, 2017: Ballotpedia has tracked a total of 65 noteworthy endorsements for Roy Moore and Luther Strange in the race for the Alabama Senate. The Republican primary will be decided at the polls today in a runoff. The winner will proceed to a general election in December.
President Trump has endorsed Strange, but his former chief strategist, Steve Bannon, has endorsed Moore. Overall, Moore has been backed by a total of 50 elected officials, national figures, organizations, and PACs, while Strange has gained the endorsements of 15.
Of those who backed Mo Brooks, the third-place finisher in the August 15 Republican primary, five have switched their endorsements to align with Moore in the runoff election: Rep. Mark Meadows (R-N.C.), Rep. Ed Henry (R-Ala.), Ann Coulter, Sean Hannity, and the Senate Conservatives Fund PAC.

Seen as a battle between the establishment Republicans, represented by Strange, and the party’s base, represented by Moore, the runoff has generated a flood of campaign spending topping $12 million. Click here to see the latest campaign commercials. The Senate race is to fill the seat vacated by Jeff Sessions (R) when he became attorney general. Luther Strange was appointed to fill the seat on a temporary basis until this election is resolved. The circumstances of his appointment have been a source of controversy in the campaign.
