September 7, 2023: Twenty (20) incumbents are running in this year's 36 state executive elections, the fewest in the past four cycles for these offices. These 36 offices are in just three states - Kentucky, Louisiana, and Mississippi - as most states hold elections in even-numbered years. All three of these states are holding elections for governor, lieutenant governor, attorney general, secretary of state, state treasurer, and agriculture commissioner, with other offices up for election in one or two of the three.
