April 4, 2023: Sixty-two percent (62%) of voters say that America would be better off with a much larger number of smaller banks rather than a few very large banks (21%). A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that this includes majorities of both Republicans (79%) and Democrats (53%).

The survey also found that a majority (52%) of voters believe that banks considered too big to fail should be broken up into smaller banks to avoid risk. Thirty percent (30%) say they should be allowed to fail anyway, and just 18% say the government should bail them out if they get into trouble.

Methodology

The survey of 1,000 Registered Voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on March 23-24, 2023. Field work for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.

The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 3.1 percentage points.
