April 8, 2021: During 2021, Ballotpedia will provide comprehensive coverage of 43 mayoral elections. Thirty-one (31) of these elections will take place in the nation’s 100 largest cities, including New York City. The other 12 are taking place in state capitals that do not fall within the 100 largest cities.

In 2020, mayoral elections were held in 29 of the 100 largest U.S. cities. Seven party changes took place as a result of these 29 elections.

While much of the national political dialogue is focused on next year’s congressional and gubernatorial elections, local races often have a more direct impact on the lives of residents. In addition to mayoral races, Ballotpedia also provides coverage of elections for city council members and district attorneys in each state capital.

Each weekday, Scott Rasmussen’s Number of the Day explores interesting and newsworthy topics at the intersection of culture, politics, and technology.
