February 13, 2020: In 2019, advertising on YouTube generated $15.2 billion for its parent company, Google. That’s up $4 billion from the year before.[1]

Last week was the first time Google ever reported YouTube revenue. Company officials said most of the ad money goes to creators of the content. However, it did not provide precise figures.[1]

To provide a sense of scale, CNBC noted that YouTube’s ad revenue alone was higher than all revenue for Discovery. That company owns Discovery Channel, Animal Planet, and many other properties.[1]
