February 22, 2018: Amazon lobbied the federal government on 24 separate issues in 2017—everything from taxes, welfare, and copyright issues to aviation, immigration, and the food industry.[1]
That figure reflects the breadth of Amazon’s influence in virtually every sector of the American economy. It’s also an increase from the seven issues the company lobbied on in the year 2000. Over the past five years, Amazon has increased its lobbying spending by more than 400%. It lobbied more government agencies than any other tech company and spent more on the effort than every firm except Google.
