July 4, 2022: Seventy-seven percent (77%) of voters think it is fair to say that the United States was founded on the ideals of freedom, equality, and self-governance. A Scott Rasmussen national survey found that just 13% disagree, and 10% are not sure.
However, the survey also found that only 29% of voters believe the United States is doing an excellent or good job of living up to those ideals today. Sixty-six percent say the U.S. is doing a fair or poor job, and 4% are not sure. About a third (34%) say the U.S. will be doing a better job of living up to those ideals a generation from now, another third (34%) say the U.S. will be doing worse, and 31% are not sure.
Methodology
The survey of 1,200 registered voters was conducted online by Scott Rasmussen on June 16-18, 2022. Fieldwork for the survey was conducted by RMG Research, Inc. Certain quotas were applied, and the sample was lightly weighted by geography, gender, age, race, education, internet usage, and political party to reasonably reflect the nation’s population of registered voters. Other variables were reviewed to ensure that the final sample is representative of that population.
The margin of sampling error for the full sample is +/- 2.8 percentage points.
