June 13, 2023: Forty years ago, on June 13, 1983, Pioneer 10 crossed the orbit of Neptune to become the first man-made object to exit our solar system. The spacecraft had been launched eleven years earlier, on March 2, 1972, and was the first to fly beyond Mars, fly through the main asteroid belt, and pass Jupiter. NASA received Pioneer 10’s last signal on January 23, 2003, nearly 31 years after it was originally launched.[1]
