October 19, 2020: With just over two weeks to go in Election 2020, RealClearPolitics rates 7 U.S. Senate races as toss-ups. Six of the seven are currently held by Republicans.[1]
If all the other races turn out as projected, Democrats would have 47 Senate seats to 46 for the GOP. That suggests the results in the toss-up states will determine control of the U.S. Senate.[1]
The toss-ups include races in Georgia, Iowa, Maine, Michigan, Montana, North Carolina, and South Carolina. The Michigan race, where Senator Gary Peters is being challenged by John James, is the only Democratic seat in this category.[1]
Two seats held by Republicans (Arizona and Colorado) are rated as leaning towards the Democrats. One Democratic seat (Alabama) is rated as likely Republican.[1]
