October 24, 2024: One hundred and sixty-three (163) years ago, in 1861, Western Union completed the first transcontinental telegraph system. The creator of the telegraph, Samuel F. B. Morse, made possible what was, at the time, an expedient delivery of messages. Just two days later, the previous fastest way to deliver messages, the Pony Express, would be shut down.[1]
