October 25, 2018: Seven state government trifectas are highly vulnerable as the midterm elections approach.
Five Republican trifectas are highly vulnerable (Florida, Michigan, New Hampshire, Ohio, and Wisconsin). Two Democratic trifectas are highly vulnerable (Connecticut and Delaware).
A state government trifecta is a term to describe single-party government, when one political party holds the governorship, a majority in the state senate, and a majority in the state house in a state's government.
In the past eight years, a state government trifecta has been broken or gained 52 times.
Heading into the 2018 elections, there are 26 Republican trifectas and eight Democratic trifectas. Forty-eight percent (48%) of Americans live in a state with a Republican trifecta while 21% reside in a state with a Democratic trifecta.
