Scott Roy McLEan participated in Ballotpedia's candidate survey on May 11, 2018. The survey questions appear in bold, and Scott Roy McLEan's responses follow below.[1]
What would be your top three priorities, if elected?
| “ | Scott wishes to make Montana the freest state by reducing spending and cutting regulations. Scott wants Montanan's to have the lowest per-capita tax burden in the country. Scott's wish is to unshackle Montana from the overreach of the Federal government.[2][3] | ” |
What areas of public policy are you personally passionate about? Why?
| “ | Scott is passionate about federalism and he believes his experience as an attorney and former law clerk for the US Senate Judiciary Committee will help him to undertake the task of loosening the grip that the federal government holds over the states. He is passionate about the states retaking their position as equal sovereigns with the federal government. He is passionate about personal sovereignty also. We must protect life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. And he thinks that inherent in this freedom is the idea that we must give each other wide berth to pursue their own unique versions of happiness. He is passionate about his oath to uphold the Constitution because he loves the concept of self-government and individual rights. He says, "I am so grateful for my freedom."Cite error: Invalid <ref> tag; invalid names, e.g. too many[3]

Ballotpedia also asked the candidate a series of optional questions. Scott Roy McLEan answered the following:
What characteristics or principles are most important for an elected official?
| “ | Scott's approach is to evaluate a candidates principles first, to ensure that he or she understands and is dedicated to liberty. Understanding the proper role of government is the core to Scott's evaluation process. Scott appreciates a candidate who has a strong grasp of how that basic philosophy applies to individual issues. Scott prizes candidates who have educated themselves in the subjects of law and economics, as his experience has convinced him that these are the two areas that politicians most often are poorly informed, and which cause the most damage when poorly understood. Finally, all other things being equal, Scott would choose a young candidate who possesses these characteristics because that individual can protect liberty for years to come.[3] | ” |
