Scott Saiki
Scott Saiki (Democratic Party) was a member of the Hawaii House of Representatives, representing District 25. He assumed office on November 8, 2022. He left office on November 5, 2024.
Saiki (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Hawaii House of Representatives to represent District 25. He lost in the Democratic primary on August 10, 2024.
Saiki became speaker of the House on May 4, 2017. He was previously the House majority leader from 2013 to 2017.[1][2]
Saiki was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, in 1964. He received a B.A. in political science and a J.D. from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. As of June 2024, Saiki was an attorney specializing in personal injury and disability law.[3][4]
Saiki first won election to the Hawaii House of Representatives in 1994. He represented the following districts: House District 20 (1994-2002), House District 22 (2002-2012), House District 26 (2012-2022), and House District 25 (assumed office 2022). Saiki helped pass legislation to legalize same-sex marriage, to require utilities to generate 100% of electric sales from renewable energy sources by 2045, and to create a statewide mail-in voting system.[3]
Saiki held various leadership positions with the National Conference of State Legislatures. He was the president of the organization from 2021 to 2022, the president-elect from 2020 to 2021, and the vice president from 2019 to 2020.[5][3]
Biography
Scott Saiki was born in Honolulu, Hawaii. Saiki earned a B.A. in political science and a J.D. from the University of Hawaii at Manoa. He served on the Campus Center Board of the University of Hawaii.[3]
Saiki has been affiliated with the Advocates for Public Interest Law Board of Directors, Hawaii State Bar Association, and the Moiliili Community Center. He has served as President of the Young Lawyers Division of the Hawaii State Bar Association.[6]

Elections for the Hawaii House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on August 9, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 3, 2014. Incumbent Scott K. Saiki was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Eric B. Marshall was unopposed in the Republican primary. Saiki defeated Marshall in the general election.[10][11][12]

Saiki won re-election in the 2012 election for Hawaii House of Representatives District 26. Saiki defeated Lei Ahu Isa and Ryan Toma Kapuniai in the August 11 Democratic primary and defeated Tiffany Au (R) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[13][14][15]
