I am currently a shop steward for local CSEA 480, a union made up of custodians, cooks, paraeducators and other school staff for the Sacramento County Board of Education where I work creating multimedia materials for educators who provide testing to English Learners and students with disabilities. Prior to doing this important work, I ran my own small business for nearly 30-years.

My life fundamentally changed the day I got the call that all parents dread, there’s been a shooting at your son’s school. My son was in the second grade, and his school principal had been shot and killed on campus during the school day. The principal was the kind of person you want in charge of a school. His catch phrase was “do the right thing,” and when, as a longtime school volunteer I was asked to step up and run for school board in the wake of this tragedy, I did… because it felt to me like the right thing to do.

I served on that school board for 9-years. I became an expert on educational funding as well as the struggles of our students that we didn’t have the resources to solve. 70% of the students in our district were food insecure, and a full 10% were homeless. Education is a foundational opportunity for people in need, but when you’re suffering from these outside traumas, it makes learning next to impossible.

That’s why I’m running for State Assembly–to continue the service I started as a Trustee and tackle the crises that face our community.
  • Housing and supporting our Unhoused Population is my top priority. We currently have 10,000 unhoused residents in Sacramento, but 30,000 more are thought to be housing insecure. I believe that the state needs to declare a State of Emergency in order to secure the resources and structure necessary to immediately house our unhoused while working towards longer term solutions. I will fight to build more affordable housing, ban Wall Street private equity from owning single-family homes, (Invitation Homes, the largest homeowner in CA, was just fined millions for rent gouging), bring back rent control, fund mental health services, and declare a state of emergency in housing.
  • Battling the Climate Crisis - I believe that California can and should be a global leader when it comes to solving our climate crisis. I will fight for solutions that prioritize people over corporate profits, bring carbon emissions to net zero, and rapidly accelerate the greening of our economy with sustainable, good-paying jobs. I am equally committed to providing a safe environment for all District residents and was appalled to discover that Sacramento County tops the list for the most kids in the state with lead poisoning. So many studies showcase what this poison does to small bodies and developing brains, and I am committed to ensuring there are funds for its immediate eradication.
  • Single Payer Healthcare for ALL Californians - Healthcare should be a right, not a privilege reserved for the wealthy. Unfortunately, we’ve given for-profit insurance companies and for-profit hospitals all of the power to decide who lives or dies. I know this all too well because I could have died of melanoma after my doctor initially refused to provide a simple referral to a dermatologist. Meanwhile 50,000 people in California are going bankrupt every year due to medical debt. I support creating a CA based, Single Payer/Medicare for ALL plan for ALL Californians. It’s time to focus on providing actual healthcare, not funding for insurance companies.
Education. Nothing is more important than providing the best possible education to our next generation of leaders. Unfortunately, many of our schools are severely underfunded, making it next to impossible to provide the same quality education and investments in extracurriculars like the arts, that schools in more affluent zip codes receive. I fundamentally believe that the quality of your zip code, should not determine the quality of your education.
Honesty and integrity - One of the reasons I refuse to take any money from corporations is because I want you to be able to trust that my vote is always going to be yours, and will never be sold to the highest bidder.
Pizza delivery driver. I did it for several years during college.
The current state funding model that relies way too heavily on capital gains, which can fluctuate wildly from year to year, leading to the constant boom and bust budget cycles.
I absolutely believe it’s beneficial, as I learned a tremendous amount during my 9-years as a School Board Trustee.
Over the course of my campaign, I have knocked on over 2,000 doors and met so many incredible people. I think the most impactful thing I have heard, and I’ve heard it multiple times is...no politician has ever knocked on my door before. This matters so much to me because I believe that our Democracy is fundamentally in danger, and that it’s incredibly important to knock on all of the doors. We need to connect with our neighbors so that we can truly build a sustainable Sacramento for everyone.

I believe that both are critical to building voter trust in the ability of government to provide the services that Californians need and deserve. A question that I want to have answered is, how has Sacramento spent over $100 million dollars this year on affordable housing and services for the unhoused all while our unhoused population has increased? I find this completely unacceptable, and I want answers.
