Sean J. McLaughlin was an Article III federal judge for the United States District Court for the Western District of Pennsylvania. He joined the court in 1994 after a nomination from Bill Clinton. At the time of his nomination, he was a private practice attorney in Erie, PA. He resigned from his post on the court in 2013.[1]

Early life and education

McLaughlin graduated from Georgetown University in Washington, DC with his bachelor's degree in 1977 and his J.D. in 1980.[1]

Western District of Pennsylvania

McLaughlin was nominated by President Bill Clinton on August 12, 1994 and confirmed on October 7, 1994. On October 11, 1994, he received his commission. He became the Chief Judge of the court upon the death of his predecessor, Judge Gary Lancaster, in April 2013.[1] McLaughlin resigned from his position as a federal judge and officially retired on August 16, 2013.[2]
