As of 2016, Sean Parker was a businessman in the internet and digital media fields. He co-founded Napster, a music sharing service, and was formerly the president of Facebook. As of June 2016, Forbes listed Parker as worth $2.4 billion. Politically, he was known for his 2016 activisim in support of the legalization of marijuana in California.[1][2][3]

Career

Parker worked in the internet and digital media fields for his whole professional career. He started by working at UUNET, which was the first commercial Internet service provider, according to the organizations LinkedIn account. Parker then cofounded a music sharing service, Napster, when he was 19. At age 21, he when on to cofound Plaxo, a contact management startup, where he worked from 2001 to 2004. He became Facebook's president for a short period of time at age 24. He then began working for Peter Thiel's venture firm, Founders Fund, in 2006 as a managing partner. As of 2016, Parker served on the board of Spotify, a digital music service entity, since 2009. In 2010, he founded Airtime, a social networking platform, and he continues to chair the organization. In 2014, he launched Brigade Media, a technology startup aiming to use social networking in order to increase political engagement.[1][4][5][6][3]

Humanitarian activity

In June 2015, Parker launched The Parker Foundation, giving $600 million to fund giving to civic engagement global health, and life sciences causes. The foundation later donated $10 million to establish a new autoimmunity research lab at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) in 2015. Parker also gave $4.5 million to UCSF to help combat malaria and $24 million to Stanford University to establish an allergy research center.[3]
