I am proud to be a fifth generation Charlestonian and a product of the Charleston County School system. I graduated from Mt. Pleasant Academy and Moultrie Middle School. I was in the first graduating class of the Academic Magnet High School, then apart of Burke. I went to the University of South Carolina Honors College and did my graduate work at the Citadel and USC. I have a Masters in the Art of Teaching as well as a certification in Secondary Education Administration. I spent close to ten years working for CCSD in rolls varying from Substitute teacher to Administrator. I was the head of Professional Development for teachers and administrators in Richland County when I left the profession. Discouragement, misguided visions and lack of support were the driving factors behind my departure.

When I left Education, I did so with a heavy heart and with the condition that I would return to it in some shape or fashion. While my businesses have consistently partnered with various CCSD schools over the years, I find my candidacy for the school board of trustees to be the most ambitious and most significant move of my pursuit to support education.

My philosophy about education and the motivation behind this campaign is simply this; POLITICS DO NOT BELONG IN EDUCATION. Too often, we have sacrificed students to push a personal or political agenda. I ask to you to consider this; Where has that gotten us?
  • Politics do not belong in education!
  • Every child in the public school system should be offered an equitable education.
  • We must treat our teachers (and pay them) like the professionals they are!
I look up to teachers: the teachers that taught me and the teachers that I taught along side. It is TRULY a selfless occupation. Any one who chooses to go into the public school system as a teacher can only be motivated by true altruism. Those teachers who specifically have a calling to teach children with disabilities or children in "at risk" environments are Angels. It is a job that you always take hone with you, a job that must come first, and a job that rarely compensates you equitably. To choose this path takes a very strong and compassionate individuals. They are, and always will be, my heroes.
I am a natural leader, but a good listener. I am compassionate but firm. I have empathy and give respect (even when isn't reciprocated.) I am fair and honest, but most importantly, I am passionate about education!!!
I would like to model what it truly means to serve the people. I would like my constituents to know that every decision I made, was made with student outcomes at the center; EVERY STUDENT"S OUTCOME!
The Space Shuttle Challenger explosion was the first historical event that I truly member. I was 11 years old in Mrs. Kay Bogs Geography class at Moultrie Middle School.
I was a bus girl at Alex's Restaurant on Coleman Blvd in Mt. Pleasant. I worked it for the duration of my senior year and the summer before going to college...
The Color Purple by Alice Walker... I just think this book speaks for itself.
Snoopy!! He never sweats. he gets the job done. And everybody loves him!!
I have lost my brother to addiction and my sister is now homeless, living on the streets because of her addiction. I worry every day, "Is this the day we get the call about my sister?"I struggle with loosing them both. I wonder what else I could have done (or do) to help. I wonder why I didn't end up like them. I wonder what all am I able to do to keep this from happening to someone else's child, brother or sister. This pains me and motivates me every day...
Governance: To ensure that the Superintendent is doing her job and meeting the districts goals.
If elected to the school board, every member of the County would be my constituent.
It is important to stay in touch with the needs of your constituents I would do this by creating focus groups that included students, parents, teachers, certified and classified employees and stakeholders in the community. I would consistently meet with these focus groups to ensure i was meeting their needs..School board members are servants of the people. We must not forget that..
My favorite thing to do is to laugh and/or make people laugh. Jokes aren't what does it for me...
