Campaign themes

2016

Chunn's campaign website highlighted the following issues:

  • Economic growth: A free world needs a strong economy to thrive. The government doesn’t create jobs but it does help form the environment for them to start, grow and prosper. The economy is a circle. What affects people affects businesses and vice versa. Right now we live in a time where the government views itself as the solution and not the problem. That is furthest thing from the truth. The overbearing amount of taxes that are out there makes it hard for businesses to grow more jobs and higher wages but taxation upon taxation hurts everyone. I will work to block any new taxes on businesses or individuals that will hurt the economy and I will fight to cut individual and business income taxes to allow the people to choose what they do with their money, not the government. It is a very simple concept: when you lessen the burden on people and put more money in their pockets, they will spend it on their bills and at local businesses which will in turn be able to cut prices and grow jobs.
  • Second Amendment: The 2nd amendment is a constitutional right, not an option that politicians can argue about. I believe any laws that restrict citizens’ right to bear arms, no matter its type or clip/magazine size, is infringing on these rights. Criminals do not buy guns legally and under federal law felons cannot own guns. All politicians do by creating these outrageous restrictions and laws is turn everyday Coloradans into criminals and do nothing to stop the criminals. I will work to undo the damage already done and will fight to block any bill that would restrict our constitutional rights.
  • Education: In high school we need to set guidelines but let local school boards draw the curriculum. I believe we need to promote schools to work with local businesses to understand the needs of those businesses and translate that into vocational training. That training and experience will teach our students trades so that if they do not go to college they have a trade that can get them a career where they can grow. At the same time, this will impart skills to the students who do go to college to be better prepared for their future. When it comes to college education we need to work bi-partisan reforms to not only lower the cost of a college education but also the effectiveness. Right now over 50% of recent graduates are either unemployed or underemployed and that has to change.
  • First Amendment: Now, more than any time before, our 1st Amendment is under attack. I will block any bill that attacks our freedom of speech, religious liberties or free press. I will not stand for any attack on any constitutional rights because the constitution is the law of the land, not a bill a politician wrote to protect their own interest.
