Sen. Bernie Sanders announces bid for presidency

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) officially announced his bid for the presidency this afternoon at a press conference. The conference was also streamed live over the Internet via Periscope.[1]
Sanders, who was first elected to the United States Senate in 2006, is the longest serving Independent member of Congress. He previously served in the U.S. House for 16 years prior to his election to the Senate.
