February 23, 2011
California: On February 19, 2011, Senior Judge David Thompson of the Ninth Federal Circuit Court passed away unexpectedly at the age of 80. Thompson was appointed to the bench by Ronald Reagan on December 17, 1985 and assumed senior status on December 31, 1998. Thomson issued several notable rulings during his judgeship, including invalidating a law in Washington that required employers of paid circulators to make the employees' names and addresses public. Recently Thompson was set to sit on 3-judge panel of the 9th circuit on Tuesday, February 22, but that hearing has been canceled.[1]
