Senior federal judge James Barrett dies at the age of 89

Cheyenne, Wyoming: On Monday, November 7, 2011, Senior Federal Judge James E. Barrett passed away in Cheyenne at the age of 89. Born in Lusk, WY, Barrett served in the U.S. Army, 1942-1945, landing on Omaha Beach with Allied Forces on D-Day. He went on to earn his Ll.B. from the University of Wyoming and served as the Attorney General for Wyoming from 1967 until 1971 when he was appointed by Richard Nixon to serve on the United States Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit. During his nearly 16 years on the bench Barrett authored over 3,000 opinions for the court. In 1979 he was also named to serve as one of three original judges on the U.S. Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court of Review, which reviewed espionage cases in Washington, D.C..
District Judge Clarence Brimmer remembered Barrett, telling the press, "Jim Barrett was always a person whom I could admire for his keen intellect and his sensible decisions. He showed the way for men or women of the conservative point of view and will be remembered for his extraordinary industry, zeal and intellectual ability."[1]
