Sergio A. Gutierrez was a judge on the Idaho Court of Appeals. He was appointed to the court by former Republican Governor Dirk Kempthorne in January 2002 and was sworn into office in February 2002.[1][2] He retired on December 31, 2018.[3]

Gutierrez was a 2016 candidate for the Idaho Supreme Court.[4] He was defeated in the May 17 election by Robyn Brody and Curt McKenzie.

Education

Gutierrez received his undergraduate degree from Boise State University and his J.D. from the University of California, Hastings Law School.[1]

Career

Gutierrez worked for Idaho Legal Aid Services, Inc., practiced with the law firm of Park, Costello and Burkett, and operated a solo law practice. From 1993 to 2002, he served as a judge for the Idaho District Courts. Gutierrez was appointed to the Idaho Court of Appeals in 2002.[1]

Gutierrez ran for the seat on the Idaho Supreme Court held by Chief Justice Jim Jones. Jones decided not to seek re-election in 2016.[4] Gutierrez was defeated by Robyn Brody and Curt McKenzie.
