|As Scholarship Chair for the Peralta Colleges Foundation Board of Directors, I have worked hard to create educational opportunities for students at Peralta. I am proud to state that last year, the Foundation distributed over 293 scholarships in excess of over $185,000 in aid for Peralta students.
As a teacher, I have first-hand experience with the Peralta student population. I teach a dual enrollment criminal law class at Merritt College and Oakland Technical High School. I have taught students who are managing family obligations, work requirements, rent payments and future dreams.
I am a proud Air Force veteran and former prosecutor. Currently, I serve as Chief of Staff for Oakland City Councilmember Dan Kalb.
I earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy from Occidental College, a Juris Doctor from the George Washington University Law School, and Master’s in Public Administration from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
- I am running for Peralta Community Colleges Trustee, Area 7 for a simple reason: everyone deserves a chance to be successful.
- I am keenly aware of the transformational opportunity the Peralta Colleges offers to disadvantaged communities. My own education catapulted my life in ways my family could not imagine. Raised by a single mother, my brother and I learned the values of service, excellence and fairness. As a policy leader, attorney, veteran, and teacher, I see it as my duty to bring these values to the Peralta Community Colleges Board.
- As Trustee, I will focus on a number of key objectives including hiring a permanent Chancellor;
