Campaign themes

2014

Miyar's campaign website listed the following themes for the 2014 race:

MY VISION:

I am an educator that has been teaching at all levels including teacher training at the district for over 19 years. I know exactly what is going on in our school system. Being a teacher and parent, I understand first-hand the challenges faced by our children, parents and teachers as well as what their immediate needs are. I love children and am passionate about their education. This passion drives my vision for student achievement as well as parent, teacher and community involvement and advocacy. I want all stakeholders to have a voice in shaping the districts future- a collective district wide vision in which the people take ownership of it throughout the district. A collective educational vision that is clear, compelling, and connected to teaching and learning. This collective vision helps focus attention on what is important, motivate staff and students, and increases the sense of shared responsibility for student learning.

Our Children:

  • Create and support policies and programs that meet individual student needs of English language learners, Special needs children and lower performing students
  • Create and support policies and programs for more extra- curricular and elective classes that appeal to the students and their interests to make them well-rounded global citizens

Our Parents:

  • More parental involvement through consistent training, awareness and advocacy programs at school and district level to empower families in the learning process and enhance communication between schools and parents.
  • Strong PTA involvement in all schools

Our Teachers:

  • I believe that class size matters. I will work to develop a systematic plan to reduce class size, especially in elective classes and decrease student-to-adult ratios.
  • Strong new teacher mentoring programs and professional development that is ongoing and continual that allows teachers to collaborate

Our Community:

  • Use Social Media to Create Genuine Engagement with the community
  • Create strong partnerships with Civic organizations and local businesses to provide more opportunities for our children
