I am a stay at home mom and have been an active volunteer over the past few years. I was treasurer for my children’s PTO and I served on our district’s DEI Committee. I volunteer at other schools in our district and have attended school board meetings for the last 2 years. In addition, I am a LEAD Ohio graduate and I served as treasurer for our school’s levy committee when it was on the ballot in November of 2024. Currently, I am a caregiver, on two boards of directors for nonprofits in central Ohio, and participating in an internship.
  • I want to personally be more transparent if elected to this position. Our community has been voicing their concerns on this for some time. They have questions about finances, policies, and accountability. I would like to find fresh new ways to address this. One idea I have is to have a weekly video update on what is happening in the schools, with guests to interview, and things that are going on with our board.
  • I want to find new ways to be inclusive in our district. There are so many students from different backgrounds that would thrive if we can find new ways to help balance their load. For example, is there a way we could have "in the moment" audio translation for our students and/or parents when English is their second language?
  • Our school levy did not pass in the fall of 2024. There were several reasons for this, but I have noticed that there has been a lot of negativity for our school district. One way to combat this would be for us to make it easier for our community to volunteer in our schools to see first hand the amazing things that happen there every day. I want to organize a huge volunteer drive, and have the board participate. Also, how could we work with the city to bring more of the positivity from our school district to our community? For example, could we have one of the dance groups from our schools perform at the Tomato Festival next year?
There is a lot of nuance to dealing with policies at the local school district level. For me, the areas I am most passionate about are finance and safety.
The role of the board of education is to hire and evaluate the superintendent and treasurer for the district, set policy for the district, and approve the budget for the district. Board members may also give advisement and recommendations for district operations, disciplinary actions, and contract negotiation. The board of education can also pass on community feedback to the district, and increase community engagement through things like attending student activities.
My very first job was at my mother's clothing store in Steubenville, Ohio. It started out with me cleaning the bathroom, hanging back up clothes after trying them on, and organizing clothing. By the time I went to college, I had learned about our inventory system, how to deal with unhappy customers, and how to operate the register.
Our students come from various walks of life, but they all deserve a quality education. By attending to the needs of a student with disabilities, or that lives in poverty, or that does not speak English, we are inclusive to all. At this time there are still protections to students with disabilities in the Ohio Administrative Code and the IDEA Act. However, for students that are learning English as a second language, the current administration has removed guidance that told schools to accomodate them. Even if our federal government will no longer require this from public schools, I firmly believe that our district should continue to dedicate resources to the students who are learning English.
I worked in a crisis center for 8 years before I had children. I learned a lot about how to maintain safety in large structures and during large events. I would like to sit down with the head of the district's security if elected, and find out strategies in place to protect our students.
