Shanda Yates
Shanda Yates (independent) is a member of the Mississippi House of Representatives, representing District 64. She assumed office on January 7, 2020. Her current term ends on January 4, 2028.
Yates (independent) ran for re-election to the Mississippi House of Representatives to represent District 64. She won in the general election on November 7, 2023.
On January 13, 2022, Yates announced that she was leaving the Democratic Party and would register as an independent.[1] Yates tweeted, "In the last week, certain members of my own caucus and party made it clear that I was not wanted within the Democratic Party. As such, I simply removed myself from the situation so that I could focus my efforts on representing my constituents to the best of my ability."[2]
