Shanelle Jackson (Democratic Party) is running for election to the U.S. House to represent Michigan's 12th Congressional District. She declared candidacy for the Democratic primary scheduled on August 4, 2026.[source]
Jackson (Democratic Party) was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives, representing District 9.
Biography
Jackson received a bachelor's degree in political science from the University of Michigan-Dearborn and a master’s degree in social justice from Marygrove College in Detroit. Her professional experience includes working in the financial technology sector and for the Michigan Department of Transportation.[1]

Elections for the Michigan State Senate took place in 2014. A primary election was held on August 5, 2014, and a general election took place on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was April 22, 2014. David Knezek defeated five other candidates in the Democratic primary. Jennifer Rynicki was unopposed in the Republican primary. Knezek defeated Rynicki in the general election. Incumbent Tupac Hunter (D) did not seek re-election due to term limits.[2][3][4][5]

2012
Jackson ran in the 2012 election for the U.S. House to represent Michigan's 13th District. The Secretary of State's office had initially ruled that her 1,625 delivered signatures contained less than 1,000 valid signatures. On May 29, 2012, however, Jackson appealed the decision.[6] On June 7th, 2012, the Office of the Wayne County Clerk determined that Jackson did indeed have enough signatures to appear on the August 7th primary ballot.[7]
She was defeated by incumbent John Conyers, Jr. in August 7 the Democratic primary.[8]
2010
Jackson won re-election to the District 9 seat in 2010. She defeated Danyelle Coleman, Reggie Davis, Choka Johnson, Daniel McFarland, Audrey Smith, Michael Terrell (Michigan) and Mary Thomas in the August 3 Democratic primary. She faced Richard Zeile (R) in the general election on November 2, 2010.[9][10]
