Shanlee McNally is an at-large representative on the Waterloo Community Schools school board in Iowa. First elected in 2008, McNally won a new term in the at-large general election on September 12, 2017.

Three of seven seats on the Waterloo Community Schools Board of Education in Iowa were up for general election on September 12, 2017. One seat was up for at-large election and two seats, Districts 1 and 4, were up for by-district election. After two candidates withdrew from the election in late August, each seat was unopposed.[1]

One of three incumbents chose to file for re-election, leaving two open seats.[2] At-large incumbent Shanlee McNally ran unopposed and was re-elected. Newcomer Astor Williams was elected to the open District 1 seat and Endya Johnson was elected to the open District 4 seat.[3]

Two newcomers filed for the District 1 seat, Williams and Brian Jacobs. On August 28, 2017, Jacobs withdrew his candidacy. He appeared on the ballot. Newcomers Leah Morrison and Johnson filed to run for the District 4 seat. On August 30, 2017, Morrison withdrew from the race, but her name remained on the ballot.[4][5]
