I am a 4th-generation Kansan from a McPherson Co. family farm. We raised our family at our home of 29 years in the country in Kingman Co., near Cheney, KS. I am currently retired but enjoyed a successful career in the telecommunications and solar energy industries. As a stay-at-home mom, I was a very active volunteer in leadership roles at local schools, PTAs and 4-H clubs. I also served on the Kingman Co. Extension Executive Board, and on the Kingman Co. Economic Development Council. Now that I am retired, I am experienced and ready to serve the constituents of Senate District 34, continuing my lifetime of public service.
  • I will continue to fight for Medicaid (KanCare) Expansion in Kansas. Our state is one of only ten states in the country that have NOT passed Medicaid Expansion! All of our bordering states HAVE and are enjoying the benefits of reduced health care costs for their citizens. Medicaid Expansion will also help protect Kansans from excessive medical debt and will strengthen and preserve our district's many rural hospitals. According to "Alliance For A Healthy Kansas", lack of expansion has already created a loss of over $7.3 BILLION of Kansas dollars while we wait for expansion!
  • I fully support our public education system. I understand how important it is for EVERY child to have access to a good and adequately funded public education. I support a school finance formula that addresses the needs of all student populations, including at-risk students, students in poverty and students with special needs. I also am strongly opposed to the use of public monies to support any students in private schools. This would include tax credits, vouchers and scholarships funded by taxpayer monies. I passionately believe that providing a first-class public education is one of the greatest gifts we can provide to our children.
  • Much work still needs to be done to improve rural broadband. Many rural Kansans do not have access to good and reliable internet connections that are vital to agriculture, small businesses and health care connections.
I am very passionate about Medicaid expansion and adequate public education funding.
Integrity, honesty and dedication are extremely important to do the work of the people as an elected official.
I believe it is very important to listen to the needs of the people in the district and then study and implement the policies that will address those needs.
My very first job was working for my dad on the family farm, driving Versatile tractors, disking, spring-toothing and planting the wheat. Dad always said he'd rather pay me than hire outside help because he knew I would take care of the equipment and do things to the best of my abilities. My first job after graduating from college with a degree in Business Administration was at Western Electric as a line supervisor where we manufactured mercury switches and relays for the Bell telephone system. {I'm dating myself now!)
I believe that previous experience can be helpful but is not necessary. It is more important to study the issues and listen to the needs of the residents of my district.
I believe that it would be very beneficial to build those relationships with other legislators. This can be especially important when it comes to issues that I may not be as familiar with as legislators that have direct experience with those issues.
Yes, I would model myself after Kansas Representative Jason Probst and Kansas Senators Oletha Faust-Goudeau and Marci Francisco.
No, I want to stay in Kansas and represent either my Senate District 34 or my House District 114.
I have heard many personal stories from people in my district regarding health care concerns. Many constituents of our district have either no health insurance or very poor coverage. Their stories are heart breaking and motivate me to win this seat and finally pass Medicaid expansion so all Kansans can have access to good health care.
American Federation of Teachers-Kansas (AFT-KS)
These are two factors that are extremely important for a well functioning state government that serves the people.
A state ballot initiative is and has been a good thing for Kansas.
