Southampton Select Board member Shannon Cutler resigned on June 30, 2017, after facing a recall effort. Cutler said that she resigned because of concerns about the town's political environment and her family moved to Holyoke.[1]

Recall supporters

Recall supporters argued for Cutler's removal from office due to her absence from approximately half of the board's meetings after her 2015 election. Fellow board members Charlie Kaniecki and James LaBrie signed the recall petition against Cutler. [1]

Recall opponents

Cutler made the following statement in her resignation letter:

I tried to fight for the little people who always got run over or the ones who were afraid to speak up. I tried to air as much 'dirty,' unfair and secret behind the scenes activity as I could. In the end I feel the tables have turned and I fight the good fight alone.[1][2]

—Shannon Cutler (2017)
