In 1977, my parents met hitchhiking on the Florida Coastal Highway. My mother smashed her Taylor Guitar over my father's red Ford Truck and walked away. She was six months pregnant. By the time I was two, I had been in and out of foster care. The last time I saw my mother, she was pushing a big green kitchen table in front of my bedroom door. She left us there. My step-brother was 12 months old. He cried for a long time. I began to push on that big green table. I kept pushing and pushing until I could squeeze through. I walked across the street and asked for my mother. She didn't come, but social services did. At two-years-old, I changed the course of my life.
Over the next 38 years, I continued to redefine myself and my life by pushing through obstacles. I am a Magna Cum Laude, non-traditional, graduate of Murray State University. My husband, Justin Roberts, and I own Walk the Willow, a willow furniture and eco sculpture business based in Murray, Kentucky where we raise our two daughters.

Francis Perkins. She was an intelligent, ceiling smasher who fought for suffrage rights as a young woman. Later she worked fearlessly for impoverished American workers. Franklin D. Roosevelt appointed her to serve as the Secretary of Labor. She was the first woman to hold a cabinet position. During her twelve years as Secretary, she helped architect the New deal by creating the American unemployment benefits program, the Social Security program, established the minimum wage laws, and Child Labor Laws. I'd like to follow her example by using creative intelligence to solve the pressing problems that face modern American workers and their families.
An ethical care philoshopy, integrity, and honesty are essential characteristics of elected officials. Our representatives need to carry our voices to Frankfort and not echo the whispers of lobbyists and cooperate interests.
I am hard-working and from the working class. I am energetic and innovative. I am resourceful and diligent. I am ethical and value people over money. I am brassy and will hold my position and fight for the common Kentuckian.
I would love to be the first woman to serve as the District 5 State Representative. I would like to expand our local tourism and art community while working to see our factory workers protected from surprise closures and see hemp's potential fully realized in our local agricultural community. I also would like to improve the lives of single women and their children by attracting new businesses in the district that properly support women in the workplace.

As a foster child raised by my grandparents, my self-worth and confidence suffered for years. Through the support of my husband, the love for our children, and through my own unabashed gratitude and perseverance, I assumed the power that my struggles gifted me. My struggles have been shaped me into a stronger and kinder human being. I employ empathy and logic to do the next right thing.
All fiscal bills must be introduced in the House. A member of the House gives a more personal voice to the people they serve, as the House holds 100 members to the Senate's 38.
No. I believe that public servants need to be diverse in their representation. People with many backgrounds can serve their communities just as well or better than life-long politicians.
Right now, I see the deficit in the budget is the number one issue. We must be open to new forms of revenue in order to provide services for our people and benefits for state workers.
A relationship that includes communication and compromise has the best chance of productivity.
Yes. Being able to discuss policy goals and ask for expertise while drafting bills requires relationship building and trust.
