Campaign themes

Mendes' campaign website listed the following campaign themes for 2013:[3]

  • Accountability - Throughout my profession I have worked side by side with hundreds of leaders. I will be able to ask the tough questions. I will make certain that the district's actions and decisions are beneficial to our students, that the overall result will provide our children with the high quality education and opportunities they deserve.
  • Technology - Technology is no longer the future, it is now. With my skills I will promote the continued success of the district's technology and see to it that our students are working with the latest advancements. This will include ensuring that the necessary measures of Information Security are in place and provided for our students.
  • Professional Development - I believe that ongoing teacher development programs and support are essential to maintain our students' success. This is important with the current development performance in place which is focused on both teacher practice and student learning. With my knowledge in evaluation models and due practices, I will make sure that we will continue to meet and exceed the state's requirements.
  • Financial Literacy - With our country's debt ratio at an all time high, statistics show that Americans do not have the financial knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their own financial futures. With my experience in developing and training financial literacy, I will promote that the district develops and uses available resources to empower our children as early as elementary school and all through high school on the fundamentals of money management.
