I am the position incumbent, a three-term councilmember and immediate past mayor. I have served in this office since January 2014 as well as regional offices. I have served three terms as Chair of the Pierce County Regional Council, representing the 23 cities and towns in Pierce County, and previously served in the Vice Chair role for two additional terms. I am currently elected to the Point Defiance Zoo & Trek Authority and the Pierce Transit Board of Commissioners. I have held various seats on the Puget Sound Regional Council on the Economic Development District Board and Transportation Improvement Board.

My full-time professional experience outside of elected office includes roles in finance, strategy, and healthcare. My most recent role was as Manager of Budget, Finance & Accounting with the City of Seattle. Prior to that I held the office of Planning & Strategy Manager at MultiCare Health System.

My educational credentials include a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a Bachelor of Science in Biology with a Pre-Professional Health Sciences concentration from Pacific Lutheran University. I hold a Master of Business Administration from Seattle University. I am enrolled in the Doctor of Medicine program at Washington State University and my anticipated graduation date is May 2029.

I am a mother of two wonderful school-aged boys and enjoy cooking for them, knitting and sewing their outfits, and reading with them.
  • Our region needs a cogent affordability plan that prioritizes pathways for young people to establish themselves as well as for seniors to age in place with dignity.
  • We must focus on supporting our citizens with the tools they need to be healthy: high-quality and accessible parks and open spaces, strong partnerships with local educators, and well-maintained infrastructure.
  • We must be active stewards of our natural resources. This means both striving toward environmental sustainability as well as aspiring to environmental justice.

Fircrest is uniquely positioned in terms of its expansive and high-quality amenities as a full-service city, as well as its enviable financial position comparative to the surrounding jurisdictions of Pierce County.
My childhood hero was Charles Darwin. I was fascinated by his voyages to far-flung locales to study exotic animals.

As an adult, I've been inspired by figures such as FDR and Eleanor Roosevelt, Maria Montessori, Elizabeth Cady Stanton.
Honesty, integrity, forthrightness, compassion, and accountability are key traits that an elected official should possess.
The core responsibilities at the municipal level of office are managing financial resources responsibly, ensuring for the provision of high-quality programming and amenities, maintaining existing infrastructure prudently, planning for financial "rainy days", and listening to and responding to the concerns and suggestions of constituents.
Through my practice of medicine and legislative work, I would like to leave a world that is safer, kinder, and more equitable for my children and all future generations. I think the best way to accomplish this is in subtly and incrementally through small and genuine gestures of servant leadership.
The first historical event that I remember was the Columbine attack. I was five years old and had the distinct impression that this was tragic and notable.
I started working at the City of Fircrest at age sixteen as a lifeguard. I loved it, and have celebrated being employed at the City for half of my life this year when I marked my 32nd birthday.
I used to really enjoy "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens when I first read it in elementary school. I think the vividness of Dickensian prose created rich world-building and characterization that I was enchanted with.

Now in my adulthood, as an aspiring pediatrician, I would say that I still mostly read kids' books and classics. My son's favorite book was "Boss Baby" so that one occupies a special place in my heart.
I think I would be Horace Slughorn. He is a clever professor, adept chemist, shrewd politician, and charismatic dinner host. What's not to like about that?
I had various health concerns when I was younger that often made me feel different and isolated. Those experiences inclined me toward advocacy and being a voice for vulnerable people.
Through regional committees, Fircrest currently has an outsized influence in the region. Fircrest currently holds voting membership seats on several junior tax authorities and advisory boards.
No; however being civically engaged and having a high degree of understanding of Washington State civics and the RCWs governing municipal offices is key.
Introspection and self-awareness are very helpful skills in this office. It is important to question the validity of one's own conclusions and to be open to different and opposite viewpoints without prejudice or defensiveness. It is important to practice distilling what is useful from suggestions that we may not be wholly in agreement with, to find common ground, and to be open-minded to changing one's mind when presented with new evidence.
Fircrest is unique locally in that it shares borders with multiple cities and also junior taxing authorities. Several different educational systems, both K-12 and collegiate, lie within its borders or adjoin its boundary lines. There are more opportunities to forge partnerships in Fircrest than in most of the Pierce County cities for this reason.
Fair Vote Washington; Moms Demand Action; Protect Their Future
Through my advocacy work in drunk driving prevention, I heard from a mother who lost both children in separate impaired driving assaults. That one really stuck with me.
My children are growing up to be wonderful and kind people. It is not really an "accomplishment" on my part, as their successes are their own, but I am very proud to be their mother.
