Shanta' Owens (Democratic Party) is a judge of the Alabama 10th Judicial Circuit Place 2. She assumed office on January 31, 2019. Her current term ends on January 18, 2027.
Owens (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for judge of the Alabama 10th Judicial Circuit Place 2. She won in the general election on November 3, 2020.
Gov. Kay Ivey (R) appointed Owens in January 2019 to fill the position previously held by Laura Petro.[1]
Prior to her appointment to the Alabama 10th Judicial Circuit, Owens was a judge for the Jefferson County District Court in Alabama.[2] She joined the court in 2008 and successfully ran for re-election in 2014.[3][4]

Education
Owens earned her B.S. from Alabama State University and her J.D. from Louisiana State University School of Law. She also attended Université D’Aix-Marseille III in Aix-en-Provence, France where she earned a Bachelor of Civil Law Degrees.[5]
Career
Owens became a judge for the Jefferson County District Court in 2008. She was admitted to the bar on September 27, 2002.[6]
