Biography
Sharlett Mena was born in the Tri-Cities, Washington, and lives in Tacoma, Washington. Mena earned a B.A. in communications and philosophy from Washington State University in 2011. She studied abroad at University College Cork in 2010 and also completed American University's Women in Politics Institute's WeLead Leadership Development program in 2015. Her career experience includes working in communications for U.S. Representative Albio Sires (D-NJ) and U.S. Rep. Gene Green (D-Texas), for Jay Inslee during his 2016 gubernatorial campaign and when he was governor of Washington, as a communications specialist for the Washington State Legislature's Senate Democratic Caucus, and as a special assistant to the director of the Washington State Department of Ecology.[1]
Mena co-created Voter Turnup. She served as a board member of the South Tacoma Neighborhood Council, Fuse Washington, Progreso, and the Planned Parenthood Votes Washington Political Action Committee. She was also appointed by Gov. Inslee to serve on the Governor’s Pandemic After Action Review Task Force.[2]
