My name is Sharn Shoker, and I’m a lifelong Kent resident—born, raised, and now raising my own family here. I’m running for Kent City Council because I believe in the power of local leadership that listens, acts, and puts people first.

Professionally, I’ve spent the last decade working in the nonprofit and policy world, focused on building partnerships and lifting up community-driven solutions to challenges like housing, public safety, and access to opportunity. Most recently, I served as the Director of King County Policy and Advocacy, where I worked to advance practical solutions that reflect the real needs of our communities.

I also serve on the administrative boards of Khalsa Gurmat Center and the Randhawa Foundation, where I help lead work that directly impacts Kent residents. From overseeing budgets to managing programs that support youth, seniors, and families, I’ve worked hands-on to deliver results and strengthen our neighborhoods.

I’ve knocked on doors across Kent, and I hear the same things—families want safe neighborhoods, better roads, support for our youth, and a local government that actually works for them. That’s why I’m running.

I hold a Master’s degree in Public Policy, and my family owns a small business right here in Kent. I understand the importance of supporting a thriving local business sector and making sure our city is a place where working families and small businesses can succeed.
  • I’m committed to making Kent a safer place for everyone by addressing everyday issues like street racing, car thefts, and break-ins. I support a community-based approach to public safety—where law enforcement works in partnership with residents and is embedded in the neighborhoods they serve.
  • I’ll work to make Kent more business-friendly by improving the permitting process, strengthening infrastructure, and creating real incentives to attract and keep businesses here. When local businesses succeed, they create jobs, boost our economy, and bring life back to our downtown and neighborhood corridors.
  • Kent needs a compassionate and effective approach to homelessness and addiction—one that balances support with accountability. I support proven strategies that connect people to housing, treatment, and long-term stability, while also ensuring our public spaces remain clean, safe, and welcoming for all.
I’m passionate about public safety, economic development, and addressing the root causes of homelessness and addiction. Every resident deserves to feel safe where they live, work, and raise their family, and I support common-sense policies that make our neighborhoods more secure and connected.

I care deeply about supporting a strong local economy by making it easier for businesses to open, grow, and stay in Kent. A thriving business community means more jobs, more services, and a stronger city overall.

I’m also committed to tackling homelessness with accountability and compassion. That means investing in long-term solutions—like housing, treatment, and community partnerships—while also keeping our public spaces clean and safe.
The core responsibility of a City Councilmember is to serve the people—by listening to their concerns, making informed decisions, and ensuring city policies and resources reflect the needs of the community. That means being accessible, transparent, and focused on results.

A Councilmember should be visible and active in the community. People should know who their representatives are and feel comfortable reaching out. That kind of presence builds trust and ensures decisions are grounded in real conversations with the people most impacted.

This role also includes improving public safety, investing in infrastructure, supporting local businesses, and making sure city services are delivered efficiently and fairly. It’s about planning for growth in a way that protects our quality of life and keeps Kent moving forward.

At its core, serving on City Council is about showing up, working hard, and putting the community’s needs first—always.
I want to leave a legacy of leadership that was visible, responsive, and rooted in community. I hope people will say I listened, showed up, and took action—not just during campaign season, but every day in office.

I want to be remembered as someone who helped make Kent a safer, more vibrant city where families, seniors, and small businesses could thrive. Someone who brought people together to solve tough problems and worked to create lasting solutions—especially around public safety, economic growth, and homelessness.

Most of all, I want future generations—especially young people growing up in Kent—to see themselves in local leadership and know that their voices matter and their city works for them.
