Sharon S. Townsend
Sharon S. Townsend was a judge of the New York Supreme Court 8th Judicial District. She left office in 2017.
Education
Townsend received her B.A. degree from the University of Rochester in 1976 and her J.D. degree from the University of Connecticut School of Law in 1979.[1]
Career
Townsend began her career in 1979 as a court clerk for the Erie County Family Court. The following year, she joined the Erie County Department of Social Services Office, Child Support Enforcement Division. She then worked as an associate attorney of the law firm of Siegel, Kelleher & Kahn from 1981 to 1987. From 1989 to 1991, she was an associate attorney for the firm of Hodgson, Russ, Andrews, Woods & Goodyear. She also served as an adjunct professor for Medaille College in 1998.
Townsend began her judicial career in 1985, when she was elected to the Williamsville Village Court. She then worked as a judge of the Erie County Family Court from 1992 to 2002. From 1996 to 2002, she also served as the Supervising Judge of the 8th Judicial District Family Court and an acting justice of the Supreme Court. She was elected to the Supreme Court of Erie County in 2004 and served as the Administrative Judge of the 8th Judicial District from 2003 to 2009.
Townsend was appointed Vice Dean of the New York State Judicial Institute in 2009.[1]
