A Grassroots Campaign focused on Nampa and it's Citizens - Not Special Interests
I’m running for Nampa City Council because I believe District 5 deserves a representative who listens—someone who speaks with the people, not at them. Like you, I care about the day-to-day realities we all face, because I live them too.
Many of us moved to or stayed in Nampa because we value its small-town spirit. We want to feel safe in our neighborhoods, to see our community grow responsibly, and to trust that city government is working for us—not for outside interests.
These values are at the heart of my campaign. But here’s what sets me apart:
I’m not taking donations.
I’m not seeking endorsements.
I have no ties to special interests—and I don’t want any.
The only thing I’m asking for is your vote.
I believe that if we truly want to preserve Nampa’s character, we need leaders who are grounded in the community—not in campaign contributions or political favors. Running this way might make it harder to spread the word, but I believe it's the right way to serve.
If elected, I’ll be accountable only to the people of Nampa. That’s a promise.
This campaign is built on honesty, common sense, and a commitment to put people before politics. If that’s the kind of leadership you want for District 5, I’d be honored to earn your vote.
Shaun M. Simmons
- Public Safety First: With two decades in security and corrections, Shaun knows what real safety requires. He’ll fight for fully funded police and fire departments, support fentanyl prevention efforts, and advocate for mental health resources for first responders and families.
- Smart, Responsible Growth: Shaun will oppose unchecked development that clogs roads and strains schools. He supports policies that make growth pay for itself and protect the character of existing neighborhoods. Infrastructure Before Expansion: Shaun will ensure roads and traffic systems in District 5 are improved before new high-density developments are approved. He believes in practical solutions—not promises.
- Listening to You: Shaun knows local government works best when it listens. He’ll host regular town halls, fight for transparency, and keep politics out of common-sense decision making. “It’s more important to help a man earn money for his family than to help a man earn money for his corporation.” – Teddy Roosevelt Shaun believes that faith, family, and community are the cornerstones of a healthy, vibrant city—and that Nampa deserves leadership rooted in real-world experience, not politics.
Defending Small Town Values that are unique and endearing to the social fabric of what makes Nampa a great place to live.
Preserving what makes Nampa, Nampa. Through responsible growth that strengthens the community. Through opportunities, resources and putting the daily lives of our citizens and families first.
Faith, family, and community are the cornerstones of a healthy, vibrant city—and that Nampa deserves leadership rooted in real-world experience, not politics.
To engage with citizens, advocate for them and most importantly listening. With the intention of making real lasting change that benefit individuals, families, small businesses and the community as a whole.
My first job was when I was in High School, I was a prep cook for a small locally owned restaurant. Sadly this restaurant no longer exists.
My first full time Job was at Motive Power, a Locomotive Manufacturer. I worked as a Material Handler, preparing parts kits to be delivered to production. Sadly, this plant shut down in Boise and was moved back east.
My frist public service job was when I was 20 years old, I was a Correctional Officer for the Idaho Department of Correction.
I remember hearing about the us being involved in a war. I was 5 years old at the time and didn't understand much about what was going on. It was Operation Desert Storm.
I have several people I look up to. Family members, teachers and friends. As far as public figures that I looked up to that others would know about, I would have to say Abraham Lincoln, Teddy Roosevelt and General George S. Patton. These figures showed me that passion for what you believe mixed with the willingness to protect and uplift those around you are traits that should be admired and upheld.
That I did my best for my community, family, friends and myself. That I lived, fought the good fight and helped make the world a little better than I found it.
I think my biggest struggle in my life is something that most people struggle with. Which is finding your place in the world. To combine your passions, skills and knowledge into something that can be utilized in our community in a meaningful way. In other words "Finding Your Calling In Life". I believe my calling is to serve others to help benefit the betterment of society.
I mostly read historical nonfiction. As I like to be reminded of who we are as a society and what was needed and sacrificed to get us to where we are.
As far a fiction, I would have to say the "Lord of the Rings". Because Tolkien work highlights the good and evil that exists and that even very small acts of good can have a profound effect.
Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings.
In general, as I don't want share anything someone told me without their permission. The stories that I have heard about how they have had to struggle and persevere and keep their faith because they know that is what is required of them. Also, hearing of some blessings that someone received from someone, the small things that most take for granted that can have a huge impact on someone going through a tough time.
I would say its more of a personality trait than a single accomplishment, that I am most proud of. Perseverance in times of difficulty. Because it helps define and shape who I am and how I fit into the world.
