As a single mother of two for most of my life, I understand that it takes a village! For the past 15 years, I've passionately spearheaded community engagement initiatives and mentored kids in the City of Richmond, recognizing that community support is an essential component in empowering our youth.

My commitment is rooted in the belief that every child deserves the best standards of education. With a focus on community engagement, family support, and the well-being of our children, I aim to continue the work ahead.

✨ Reimagining Richmond Public Schools:

  • A city where budget knows no limits
  • Achieving 100% accreditations
  • Safety of our babies remaining the top priority
  • Thriving reading and math scores
  • Providing essential support for English language learners
  • Soaring scholars of all ethnicities and backgrounds
  • Collaboration between community, constituents, parents and staff

As a proud graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School and holder of a bachelor's degree in political science and homeland security from VCU, coupled with a master’s degree in Criminal Justice, my educational journey fuels my dedication. I am a first generation college graduate. Going to work full time during the day, going to school at night for 6 years, all while supporting two small children was not easy. But the experience taught me that no matter the adversity, your dreams are still possible!

Currently serving as the incumbent, I am committed to continuing our work.
  • Child Advocacy:** Pledging to prioritize the well-being of our children by creating a nurturing and inclusive educational environment.
  • Community: emphasizing practical support for families, ensuring they feel empowered and involved in their children's education.
  • Collaboration:** Committed to actively engaging with the community to understand its unique needs and collaboratively shape the educational landscape.
As a School Board member, I am deeply passionate about three key areas of public policy: safety, literacy, and equality. 1: I believe every child deserves a safe and secure environment, both physically and emotionally, to thrive in their education. I support policies that promote student well-being, mental health resources, & effective safety protocols in our schools. 2: Literacy is a cornerstone of success. I advocate for comprehensive literacy programs that ensure every student, regardless of background, has access to the tools & support they need to develop strong reading & communication skills. Early literacy is especially critical for lifelong learning and opportunity. 3: I am committed to promoting equality in education.
School board members play a critical role in the governance and oversight of public schools by: 1. Setting Vision & Goals: Establishing a clear vision & strategic goals for the school district to guide its educational programs and initiatives. 2. Policy Development: Creating & adopting policies that govern the operation of the school district, including policies on curriculum, student behavior, & staff conduct. 3. Budget Approval: Overseeing the development of the district's budget & ensuring that resources are allocated effectively to meet educational goals. 5. Hiring/Evaluating the Superintendent: Selecting and evaluating the performance of the superintendent, clerk and auditors who is responsible for the day-to-day management of the district. 6. Curriculum and Instruction Oversight: Ensuring that the curriculum is aligned with state standards and that instructional practices are effective and equitable. 7. Community Engagement: Talking with parents, teachers, and community members to understand their needs and concerns and to keep them informed about district initiatives and decisions. 8. Facilities Management: Overseeing the maintenance and improvement of school facilities to ensure they are safe and conducive to learning. 9. Legal and Regulatory Compliance: Ensuring that the district complies with federal, state, & local laws and regulations, including those related to special education, civil rights, and public health. 10. Monitoring Student Achievement: Tracking student performance data to assess the effectiveness of educational programs and to make data-driven decisions for improvement. 11. Advocacy: Representing the interests of the school district at local, state, and national levels, advocating for policies and funding that support public education. The above requires school board members to collaborate w/ various stakeholders, stay informed about issues, & make decisions that prioritize the best interests of students.
I worked in a grocery store. I was hired as a cashier and was quickly promoted to bookkeeper. I went on to be a front end manager and finally a store manager. I worked there for 9 years.
I am honored to announce that I have received the 2024 Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America Candidate distinction as the School Board Representative of the 9th District. Also, I'm honored to share that I have received the endorsement of Richmonders for Effective Governance of Schools (REGS) in my campaign for re-election as the School Board Representative for the 9th District.
